Egypt is also known for its historical monuments like the Giza pyramid complex and even the Egyptian civilization holds a lot of importance.

Egypt is a country which has political and Egypt Cultural significance for the Middle East. Egypt derived its English name from various sources like the French word Egypte, from Latin Aegyptus and ancient Greek Aigyptos. The culture of ancient Egypt can be classified into houses, religious beliefs, costumes, hygiene, architecture, military, food, etc.

Houses of the Ancient Egyptians

The Egyptians lived a rich Egypt Cultural life. Mostly, the ancient Egyptians were farmers and their residence was limited to immediate family members. The houses were built of mud-brick which enabled the interior of the house to remain cooler than the outside temperature.

The houses of the wealthy persons were made from double-thick walls which provided extra protection to the house.

The homes of the poor were constructed using only one brick thick wall. Every house had an open roofed kitchen which had grindstone for grinding the flour. The kitchen also had a small oven to bake bread.

The walls of the houses were painted in white or were covered with linen wall hangings. The floors were normally covered with reed mats. The ancient Egyptians also had furniture comprising of wooden stools, beds, and individual tables.

Normally, a standard Egyptian house had four rooms with one central room and three smaller rooms connected to it. The main room was constructed on an elevated level to enable air to pass through the openings made in it. The rooms were a kitchen, a store room which was also utilized as an additional bedroom and lastly, there was an entry room which led to the central room.

Mostly the entire family spent time in the central room which was also used for sleeping purposes. In case of the rich and wealthy, there again was a central room but the connecting rooms were more in number than the normal houses.

Also, the furniture was better decorated and the floors were made of mud-tiles. The wood used in furniture was generally imported. It was also used to support doorways, steps, and ceilings.

Egypt Cultural Hygiene and Entertainment

A lot of importance was given to hygiene and the personal appearance of an individual. Almost everyone bathed in the Nile river. The ancient Egyptians used a pasty soap made from animal fat and chalk. Men are known to shave their whole body to maintain hygiene. They used fragranced perfumes and ointments to prevent bad odors and to soothe the skin.

Entertainment like dance and music was part of life for those who could afford it. Instruments like flutes and harps, trumpets, oboes, etc. were popular. Bells, cymbals, drums, and tambourines were played in the New Kingdom.

Sistrum similar to rattle like musical instrument was played during religious ceremonial occasions. Music and Games were regarded as a luxury. Games like Senet, mehen, ball games, juggling, etc were played.
