Between 5500 and 3100 BC Egypt was divided into two kingdoms, known as Upper Egypt (Ta Shemau) and Lower Egypt (Ta Mehu). Egypt once again no longer unified at the start of the 14th Dynasty (Hyksos kings rule in the north). In 17th Dynasty, Egypt reunites and defeats the Hyksos from Western Asia. Between 1570 BC – 1070 BC in the New Kingdom occurred the building of the tombs of the Valley of Kings. The great Pharaohs included Hatshepsut (the famous female Pharaoh), Akhenaten, Tutankhamun, Tuthmose and Ramses II.

King Akhenaten established a new religious order worshipping the sun god Aten Around 1258 BC world’s earliest known peace treaty created. Egypt once again splits into two separate areas, Upper and Lower (715 BC). Alexander the Great invades Egypt; is eventually declared Pharaoh (332 BC).In 640 AD Egypt conquered by Arab forces, becomes Islamic after 300 years of Christianity.

Alexander the Great’s successor, Ptolemy 1, established a new dynasty that lasted until Cleopatra in 30 BC. After 30 BC Egypt fell to the Romans, who introduced Christianity, then the Arabs who brought Islam. Egypt has ever since been an Islamic nation.
