Ancient Egyptian Projects For Kids


Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations of the past. There are many activities for kids related to ancient Egypt. With such a vast time span, it's easy to find dozens of fun and educational projects for children to do for school.

Building a pyramid is a fun activity for children. Kids can be given a project during ancient Egypt to build pyramids out of match sticks, sugar, sand, etc. Also children can be given crafts project to build ancient Egyptian pharaoh mask out of paper and ancient Egyptian mummies out of bandages.

Also there are some games based on ancient Egyptian art. Mehen, the snake game, was played in ancient Egypt even before 3000BC. The idea of the game is to move your six counters around the snake towards its head and get them back safely to the tail before your opponent's lion eats them.

The students can be given a project to write their names using hieroglyphs. Egyptians wrote their names in cartouches, long ovals enclosing all the characters. You can write hieroglyphs in the cartouche left to right or right to left, but it must be made sure the animals in symbols face the direction started from.

Ancient Egyptian paintings were depicted on the walls of the tombs and monuments. Painters usually worked as teams with one master craftsman overseeing the work of several apprentices. Kids can be given projects to paints any of these paintings or to draw mummy, pharaoh, jars, ancient Egyptian gods, etc.

Kids can also be given projects to understand the ancient Egyptian symbols. For example scarab which protects from harm . It's a symbol of eternal life. It's often pictured pushing the sun upwards into the sky. The eye of horus is also known as Wedjat or Oudjat.

In magic the Eye of Horus symbolises protection and the bringing of wisdom. The eye also symbolises our ability to see with clarity and truthfulness. The Eye of Horus was believed to have healing and protective power, and it was used as a protective amulet.

Ancient Egypt was known for its magnificent beauty, exotic perfumes, beautiful clothes, flamboyant style and vivacious hairstyles. Kids can be given projects to make a necklace or anklet from beads. Also there are ancient Egyptian puzzles for kids, which are not only fun but also educational. Some questions of these puzzles are where kings and queens were buried, the name of the cat goddess, a term for how Egyptians preserved the body.
